Present-day Atlantic salmon losses at sea are higher than documented prior to 1990 but scientists and managers are often overwhelmed at the scale of the issue and multiple unknowns. This is confounded by the small biomass of salmon in a large ecosystem – a needle in a haystack.
Annual Reports are submitted to the University of Maine Vice President for Research, typically in the summer following the reporting period, which runs from February 1 to January 31. We also report this same material to the NOAA National Sea Grant Office. Impacts and accomplishments can be searched and browsed on the National Sea Grant website.
Lower Penobscot Watershed Coalition
The first Penobscot River Revival, a festival on the Bangor waterfront in July 2008, was imagined as a way to celebrate the restoration of the Penobscot River. The event was modeled after the successful Spring Running event, which Sea Grant has also supported.
