Gulf of Maine Marine Education Association

Gulf of Maine Marine Education Association (GOMMEA)

GOMMEA is an association of marine science educators, museum and aquarium staff, and other informal educators, and Maine Sea Grant is a GOMMEA member organization. As one of the 16 regional chapters of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA), GOMMEA focuses on both freshwater and saltwater, and assists those who want to increase and share their knowledge of the Gulf of Maine. Each year, GOMMEA hosts an annual conference, produces a quarterly newsletter, and organizes other participatory activities for its members who may join the organization for just $10 annually. New members are welcome at any time, and members are invited to attend the bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Directors. Meetings are generally held the third Thursday of every other month at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, in Portland, Maine.

Each summer, GOMMEA members attend and help to support the annual conference of the National Marine Educators' Association, which is hosted by a different regional chapter of NMEA each summer.
