Jim has been a faculty member at the University of Maine
for 38 years, including terms as Chair of the Department
of Zoology and the Department of Oceanography and Associate
Director of the School of Marine Sciences. During that time
he, along with his graduate students, has continuously conducted
research in rivers, and estuarine and coastal waters of
Maine. His research has also involved at-sea work in the
North Sea, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.
Special research interests include oceanic migration of
fishes, eel ecology and management, and estuarine ecology.
Jim's hobbies are cooking, travel, reading, squash playing, and bicycling.
