The Microbial Source Tracking in Two Southern Maine Watersheds project is located in York County, Maine. The first year (2001-2002) was conducted in the Webhannet Watershed, contained entirely in the town of Wells. The second year (2002-2003) examines the Merriland River / Branch Brook / Little River (MBLR) watershed, in the towns of Wells, Kennebunk and Sanford. It is the first project in Maine to use genetic analysis as a tool to identify the source animal species of bacterial water pollution.
